Steam Summary[]
Explore the seemingly infinite expanse of eerily familiar levels in the backrooms based on the popular creepypasta lore. Each level features different ways to escape with danger along the way.
Realistic graphics, minimal user interfaces, and dreary ambience will ensure an immersive experience.
Explore the backrooms with a team of up to 4 players. Be warned, as teammates may no-clip into other areas of the map and every member of your team must find the exit alive to escape. No wanderer left behind.
Traverse though 20+ unique levels based on backrooms lore with regular content updates adding more. Each level features a different way to escape with various danger along the way.
Check every corner so you won't be caught off guard by one of 12 hostile entities in the backrooms, each with their own mechanics you'll need to quickly learn if you want to survive.
Communicate with your teammates with proximity voice chat. Be sure to not wander far away from your team, as you can easily get lost in the confusing expanse of the backrooms. Entities can also hear you, so stay quiet whenever you're near any danger.
Major Updates[]
Part 2[]
Part 2 was the first Major Escape the Backrooms Update. It released on January 12th, 2023, and added tons of new Levels, New Entities, an Inventory System, and tons of other features and Improvements. The Levels used on the Update's Artwork Include Level 3, Level 5, and Level 94.
VR Update[]
The VR Update was a Major Escape the Backrooms Update. It released on March 24th, 2024, and added VR Support to the Game along with support for both Singleplayer and Multiplayer in VR. The Update also included some small Fixes. VR would later be removed in Part 4.
Part 3[]
Part 3 was the third Major Escape the Backrooms Update. It added New Levels and Entities such as Level 9, Level 8, and more. The Rest of the Game wasn't changed aside from the addition of the Smaller Area in Level 0. The Levels used on the Update's Artwork Include Level 7, the Level 188 Courtyard, and Level 9.
Part 4[]
Part 4 was the fourth Major Escape the Backrooms Update. It added a ton of New Levels and Entities. This Update took the longest time of all the Updates to make, and also finished the Main Story. Part 4 was also intended to be The Full Game, but Fancy got too carried away adding New Content and the Full Game was pushed to Part 5. The Levels used on the Update's Artwork Include Level 55.1, Level 0.1, and Level 52.
Part 5/Full Game[]
Part 5 is the next Major Escape the Backrooms Update and has yet to release. It is planned to be the Full Game and will most likely include Level 974 and Level You Cheated. It will also include a non-linear Level layout, texture redesigns, new animations, a new player model, Reworks to older Levels, and Multiplayer Gamemodes.
History[]
One Day in 2022, Fancy watched Kane Pixel's Backrooms Found Footage Video and decided to turn it into a game so that he could "scare the crap out of his friends". The original goal was to make it within one week just like his multiplayer FPS Game (an earlier game of his) however with the success of his devlog for the game it became a full project instead of a timed challenge.
On May 26th, 2022, he posted his second Devlog and added 4 new Levels, which included Level 37, Level!, The End, and Level 9223372036854775807. And that would be the last time he would add new Levels before the game's Release. He also revealed that he was working on a secret Level and may include it once the game comes out or just add it as an update later on, and this Level was Level 94.
On August 11th, 2022, the game was released in early access because the game wasn't quite finished yet and since Fancy has a part time job and school, at that rate it would take him like 100 Years to finish the Game. And then came the first content update: Part 2. For Part 2, Fancy would post teasers for it on his Discord server and on November 11th, 2022, he would release another Devlog showing new content that would be coming in this Update. 3 new Levels were added to the game, which included Level 3, Level 4, and The Hub. He would proceed to work on the update and post teasers on his Discord server, but no new Devlogs would be posted until Part 2 came out. In December, 2 new Teasers would be posted and they hinted that Part 2 was really close. And then on January 12th, 2023, Part 2 was finally released along with a new Devlog.
However, Part 3 wouldn't be Fancy's next installment for the Game as something much different was next: The VR Update. In February, Fancy would post 2 teasers for Part 3 and then on March 22nd, 2023, Fancy posted a teaser for the VR Update and then 2 Days later it was released without any Announcement whatsoever. Fancy also posted a new Devlog, and in it he added Level 7 and Level 8. He would then continue to post Teasers for Part 3 and then on June 9th, 2023, Fancy revealed that the Release Date would be coming soon. And soon enough on June 12th the Release Date was announced and on June 15th, 2023 Part 3 was released.
Fancy's next Devlog would take a while however, as it didn't release until June 30th, 2023. After Part 3 released, it was finally time for the Full Game. The Next Update (Part 4) was planned to be the full game release and contain just about all of the content people had been waiting on. But Fancy didn't post many teasers and released 2 Devlogs for it, and on October 26th, 2023, something much smaller released: The Halloween Event. Fancy's plan to keep the game alive was to have Events on holidays, however not much was added in the Event probably because Fancy was more focused on Part 4 then Events. After all, Part 4 was gonna be the ultimate Update.
On December 21st, 2023, a very small Christmas Event was released and it added 8 Player Lobby Support for the Holidays, but this was only Limited.
On January 20th, 2024, Fancy finally announced the release date for Part 4, and on January 25th, 2024, Part 4 was released. VR was also removed from the Game in Part 4. But it wasn't the full game. All it did was add new content and change some minor things in some older Levels to match up with the new ones. The next day, Fancy posted a new Devlog and stated that it wasn't the full game because he got way too carried away with adding new content and didn't want people to wait any longer.
On March 13th, 2024, Fancy posted the first ever Twitter exclusive Teaser, which was for a new Almond Water design. He would proceed to post 2 more Twitter exclusive Teasers and then posted a Discord Teaser, which is for an Expansion to The End. And here we are today. Part 5 has yet to release and it will most likely be the full game, since all the recent private updates were in the Full Release branch on SteamDB.
