Bella Vista Historical Society
The Bella Vista Historical Society will host a historic tasting and bake sale from 12-4 p.m. March 30 at the Bella Vista Historical Museum. Admission is free.
Jill Werner, museum volunteer, said the tasting event is appropriate for all ages. The theme is "Forgotten Tastes of Old Bella Vista."
Three recipes for the tasting come from "Penny's Ozark Kitchen," cookbook written and published by Penny Mahon in 1967. Dorothy's molasses bread, Mrs. Truman's Ozark pudding and Bella Vista Honeymoon Cake will be the featured recipes.
The fourth recipe will be Southern Spoon Bread from a cookbook written by the woman who rebuilt the War Eagle Mill for the fourth time, Werner said.
In addition to the four recipes, Werner will have jams for tasting. Her jam company, Agatha's Table, specializes in native fruit jams. She will have paw paw jam, maypops jam and Arkansas black apple butter.
Werner will also be selling her jams with 25% of the proceeds going to the museum.
The historical society is asking the public for donations of baked goods to include in the sale. The donated baked goods should be packaged for sale but not be priced. A professional baker will price them for the sale, Werner said. Donations may be delivered beginning at 11 a.m. March 30. All proceeds from the sales will go to the museum, Werner said.
